Chapter 1: The Wedding
It was Jakob and Rebekah’s wedding day and Jakob was nervous as he stood in front of the mirror at his family’s home.
“Take it easy, son.” Jakob’s father reminded him.
“I’m sorry, dad, but I’m nervous!” Jakob told him.
“It’s your wedding day! What’s to be nervous about?” his father questioned.
“What if she leaves me at the altar?”
“Son, I’m sure Rebekah’s is just as nervous as you are.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right?” Jakob said unsure of himself.
As Jakob’s father straightened up his tie, Jakob reflected back on his relationship with Rebekah and the journey they took to reach this day,.
Back at the church, Rebekah Jameson was on the phone with her best friend, Alyssa Chamberlain, who was making one last effort to talk Rebekah out of marrying Jakob.
Alyssa: U still going thru w/ it?
Rebekah: Yes, Alyssa. I luv him!
Alyssa: What do U C N him? Jakob’s a freak!
Rebekah: That’s UR opinion.
Alyssa: OK. It’s UR life! Am I still UR maid of honor?
Rebekah: If U wanna B.
Alyssa: OK. Meet U @ the church.
After hanging up with Alyssa, Rebekah reflected back on her relationship with Jakob and how they got to this point in their lives.
Chapter 2: Two Years Ago—The Meet
Rebekah was 16 and a sophomore at Sycamore High. A popular student, Rebekah was a cheerleader for Sycamore’s football team along with her best friend, Alyssa. At the time, Rebekah was dating the quarterback, Tim Jones when she met Jakob Karson in detention.
She had seen him in school in the hallways, but had never really paid any attention to him. Jakob was known as the school freak because he was a shy kid who kept to himself, despite the bullying he suffered from their classmates. Rebekah never directly contributed to Jakob’s bullying, but she never did anything to stop it…that is until that day in detention.
Rebekah was given detention when she was caught cheating on an English exam. She was out all night on a date with Tim, and didn’t study for the English exam the next day.
Jakob was sitting in a desk in the room where detention was held when Jeff Spruce began taunting him. having had enough of watching Jakob being bullied, Rebekah turned around and told Jeff to stop bullying Jakob.
“What’s it to you, Rebekah?” Jeff quizzed her.
“You don’t need to bully Jakob!” Rebekah told Jeff.
“You defending Freakboy?!” Jeff taunted.
“Just stop it, Jeff! It’s wrong! And Jakob doesn’t deserve the treatment!”
“Are you two dating?” Jeff accused. “What will Tim think of his girlfriend stepping out on him with Freakboy?!”
Jakob tried to ignore the commotion going on between Rebekah and Jeff, but it was hard to do and Jakob wondered why Rebekah suddenly came to his defense? She had nothing to do with him for a year when he started at Sycamore High the year before as a freshman. And when Jeff through out the accusation that him and Rebekah were dating, he couldn’t take it and ran from the room as Rebekah attempted to go after Jakob, but the teacher stopped her.
“Wait until Tim hears about this?!” Jeff threatened.
Chapter 3: Rumors
The next day, rumors were going around the school that Rebekah and Jakob were dating. Rebekah immediately stopped by Jeff’s locker to confront him about the rumors, but he flat out denied spreading the rumor.
By the time Tim had heard of Rebekah “cheating on him,” he found Rebekah eating lunch with Alyssa and told her they were over after they had gotten into a bitter fight over the alleged rumor. Rebekah looked across the cafeteria to spy Jakob eating alone. When Tim noticed how Rebekah looked immediately in Jakob’s direction, he assumed it was true and walked over to the boy who was dating his girl.
As soon as Tim reached Jakob, Tim swung his fist and punched Jakob in the jaw, who just sat there. A fed up Rebekah told Tim off and told him she was glad they were over and walked over to see if Jakob was alright and helped him get up as the two went straight to the school nurse.
Rebekah didn’t know why she suddenly began defending Jakob, but she knew the moment she did, she and Tim were over.
Chapter 4: Present Day—Wedding Day Bliss
Rebekah was a hot mess as she looked into the mirror, “Oh, jeez, I look horrible! What will Jakob think of my appearance? I'm going to scare him off!”
“You look lovely. Too lovely for your groom.” Alyssa said, still not sure what Rebekah saw in Jakob.
“Are you still on that kick?” Rebekah said stung by her friend's remark.
“I'm sorry. It was insensitive of me to say.” Alyssa apologized. “This is your wedding day and I should respect that.”
“Thank you.” Rebekah told her friend. “You know I'll respect your choice in a mate, even if I disapprove of him.”
The girls laughed together, “He just better treat you well, or he'll answer to me!” Rebekah said.
“Amen!” Alyssa said as the two clapped hands together in the air.
Rebekah's father knocked on the door to the room where Rebekah was preparing to walk down the aisle to her groom, “You two okay in here?”
“Just fine, daddy.” Rebekah said.
Mr. Jameson walked in to see a sight his daughter was on her wedding day, “You take my breath away!”
“Do you think Jakob will be pleased?”
“He'll be blown away!” Mr. Jameson and Alyssa said in unison.
Rebekah's sister peeked in the door, “It's time!”
“Well, are you ready?” Mr. Jameson said as he took his daughter's hand and followed Alyssa to the chapel.
“I'm as ready as I'll ever be!” Rebekah said with butterflies in her stomach.
Jakob was already standing at the altar waiting to see his bride, nervous as hell.
Chapter 5: Wedding Day Trouble
Rebekah was looking in the mirror at her reflection when there was a knock on the door. Assuming it was her mother, Rebekah answered it to find Tim Jones standing there.
“Tim? What are you doing here?” Rebekah asked. “It's my wedding day.”
“I'm here to stop you from marrying that freak.” Tim said.
“I have nothing to say if you're going to call my fiance names.” Rebekah said attempting to shut the door, but Tim put his foot in the way, preventing her from doing so.
“Please, Rebekah, hear me out.”
“No, Tim, now please go.”
Rebekah's father heard a commotion upstairs while waiting for his daughter to come down and went up to investigate.
“What is going on here?” Rebekah's father asked.
“What does it look like? I'm trying to stop a wedding?” Tim yelled.
“Get out of here now!” Rebekah's father yelled as he grabbed Tim by the collar and personally took him downstairs to have him thrown out of the church, while Rebekah breathed a sigh of relief.
“Thank you, daddy, I don't know what I would have done had you not shown up?”
The commotion was heard inside the chapel as Jakob left the altar to see what it was and found Rebekah's father warning Tim to stay away from the church.
Fearing that Rebekah was still in love with Tim, went upstairs to see Rebekah, knocking on the door, “Rebekah, we need to talk!”
“Jakob, I'm on my way down to the alter. We can't see each other before the wedding. It's bad luck.”
“I think the bad luck already happened.”
“Please, go back down and wait for me. I love you Jakob.” Rebekah told her groom-to-be.
Jakob did as Rebekah said and went back downstairs to the alter and waited for Rebekah.
But Tim wasn't done. He made his way into the chapel unseen and sat in the back waiting for the ceremony to start. He planned to stand up as soon as the priest uttered the words: If anyone sees any reason why this couple should not be joined in holy matrimony, speak now, or forever hold your peace.”
