24-year-old Kayleah Price is a successful real estate agent. But she has one problem—her parents want her married—like now! So when her parents make an unexpected visit—and bring along their nerdy neighbor, Charles Preston to marry their daughter, Kayleah decides she needs to find someone. Will Kayleah find someone suitable to impress her parents, or will Kayleah be forced to marry Charles?

 

Chapter 1

Kayleah groaned as she glanced at her ringing phone. It was her mother. Trying to ignore her mother's call, Kayleah pulled the pillow over her head to drown out the phone. Finally, it stopped. But Kayleah knew that her mother would keep calling until she answered.

Sure enough, five minutes later, the phone rang again. Kayleah picked up her phone and hit the green button on her phone, “Hello, mom?”

“Kayleah, dear, how are you?” her mother asked in a cheery tone that made Kayleah want to vomit.

“I'm good, mother.” Kayleah said as confidently as possible so she could get off the phone and go back to sleep.

“Good, dear, because I'm coming for a visit!” Mrs. Price announced as Kayleah bolted from her bed.

“When will you be here?”

“In two days.”

“Oh, well, thanks for the heads up, mother.” Kayleah replied as she knew she had some work to do around the apartment.

“Oh, and don't make any plans. I have a surprise for you when I come.”

“Oh, really?” Kayleah said, wondering what it could be?

“Well, mom, I guess I better let you go. I have some things to get done before you get here.”

“Love you, Kayleah.” Mrs. Price said as they ended the call.

Kayleah immediately called her co-worker, Henry Callan.

“Kayleah, what's up?” Henry said sleepily.

“Henry, I need a huge favor.” Kayleah said exasperated.

“How can I be of assistance?” Henry asked.

“I need you to pretend to be my fiance?”

Henry let out a cough before answering, “What?” as he looked over at the lady sleeping beside him in his bed.

“My mother is coming for a visit in two days, and I just know she'll be harping on me getting married.” Kayleah explained her dire emergency.

“Um, yeah, sure, I can do that for you.” Henry agreed as he felt sympathetic toward her.

“Great! Can you be over here in two days?”

“Sure. Two days. Your place.” Henry said, confirming their arrangement.

“Thanks, Henry.” Kayleah said gratefully before hanging up.

Somehow, Kayleah knew Henry would be there for her. She could always count on him for anything!
