Writing Prompt: A Friend's Secret

Your best friend has been arrested for illegally downloading music.  While in jail, he asks you to go to his house and clear everything off his computer.  As you start deleting files, you notice a folder called “Top Secret.”  Out of curiosity, you open it and are shocked by what you find.

Plot

“Oh shut up!” Stan said groggily as he silenced his cell.  It was from his best friend, James, who had just been arrested for illegally downloading music on his computer. 

James dialed Stan’s cell again.

“James?” Stan asked when he hit accept on his cell.  “Why are you calling me so early in the morning?”

“I’m sorry, Stan, but I have just been arrested.”

“What?  How?  For what?” Stan asked shocked.

“I need a favor from you?” James asked.

“Bail money?” Stan assumed.

“No.” James explained.  “I need you to go to my apartment and erase all my music from my computer.”

“O.K. “ Stan said.  “I’m headed over to your place now.”

“Thanks buddy.  I knew I could count on you.” James said before hanging up and being escorted to his cell.

Stan got dressed and jumped into his Nissan Pickup and drove over James apartment.  He let himself in with the key James gave him and sat down at James’ desk and opened up his laptop.

As Stan was deleting the music from James PC, he came across a file marked “Top Secret”.  Curious as to what James would put into this file, and against his better judgment, Stan opened the file and was shocked to discover what was in there.

Inside the file was articles and photos from a recent murder that had happened.  And it was the murder of their friend, Jerry, who had gone missing 2 years ago. 

Stan wondered why James would have photos and articles from Jerry’s murder?  Did he know who killed their friend…..
