A New Hype

Writing Prompt: “It is discovered that Earth actually IS flat.”

Prologue

I woke up this morning, fixed my coffee and sat down to watch the morning news. I couldn’t believe all the hype when some floozy news reporter mentioned that the earth actually is flat? I mean, how stupid is this person? It’s been proven many, many, many years earlier that the Earth is round.

What was this guy doing? He was spreading nothing but panic in the streets? I was about to flip the channel instead of listening to all the gobbledy-gook, when…

Little did I know…but the earth really was flat…some guy just fell of the face of the earth.

But…where did he go……

That was a mystery I intended to find out….

Chapter 1

After drinking my coffee, that became cold because I was listening to the news story trying to find out where the guy fell off the earth. I just couldn't believe that someone actually fell off the earth?

I thought it was just a saying. . .until now?!

I decided to call the TV station to see if they knew the city it happened in. But when I called, I got the run-around from some intern who told me that they had no story about some guy falling off the earth.

Did I imagine seeing that on TV?

What was going on?

But, the answer would have to wait when I had a knock on my door. . .it was my ex-wife, Cyndee.

“Hey, John.” Cyndee greeted me.

“Hey, I know it's my turn to have the kids this weekend, but I'm going to have to postpone for another week?” John told Cyndee.

“What's going on, John? This is the second week in a row you've canceled plans to have the children?” Cyndee asked.

“Something came up.” John's excuse was.

“Are you dating someone?”

“No, I'm not.”

“Well, I need you to take them. I have an appointment this weekend and I was counting on you to take the kids?”

“Well, I'm sorry, Cyndee, I can't take them this weekend.” John said adamantly. “You have an appointment? On the weekend? Are you sure you're not seeing someone?”

“No.” Cyndee said trying to keep from showing emotion. John always did seem to know when she was lying.

“What appointment, Cyndee?” John asked, more like demanded as he knew she was lying.

“Okay, I do have a date.” Cyndee confessed.

“Well, I'm sorry, but something did come up that I must tend to. Call your mother to take them. She always loved being with the kids.” John advised before he ended the call.

Now, that was solved, John could devote his attention to the news story about the man that fell off the earth and that the earth was INDEED FLAT. John had to research that story.
