Writing Prompt: Memories
You’re rummaging through an old tub of clothes from your childhood that your parents had stored away in their attic. As you search you find one particular piece that you remember as your favorite. When you hold it in your hands, you’re magically transported back to the moment you got that piece of clothing (birthday present, shopping with a parent, purchased with your own money, etc.). Write about that moment and how you felt when you received it. (Can be nonfiction or fiction.)
Chapter 1
Chelsea Graves went up to her mother’s attic to look for her manuscript that she had put up there until she needed it.
But while looking for it, she came upon an old chest of old clothes from her childhood days that her mother never got rid of—who was she talking about—her mother never threw anything out, hence, why this attic was so full of memories.
All Chelsea had to do was come up here in her mother’s attic and the memories came flooding back. The old Atari system where the neighborhood kids came over to play because they were the first in the neighborhood to get one, and the Barbie townhouse and corvette all made up like someone was going to play it.
Anyway, Chelsea decided to look through the chest of old clothes and Chelsea couldn’t believe what she found. She thought it was gone, but her mother saved the first pair of Rocky Mountain Jeans Chelsea had bought with the money she saved up from babysitting. Chelsea remembered how proud she was to have saved up that much money—even though it was only $40 to buy a pair of pants.
Chelsea put on the pair of jeans and to her amazement, they still fit.
Chelsea turned around as she modeled the pair of pants and knocked a glass of soda all over them. As she grabbed a towel to wipe it off, the stain had already set. She had ruined her first pair of pants she had paid with her own money.
