Texting in the 80s--Chapter 1

"Mom, where's my iPhone 📱?" Marissa asked her mother.

"You're on that thing way too much?!" Marissa's mother tells her.

"Sorry, mom!" Marissa apologizes. "I just can't live without my iPhone 📱. It's my life!"

"One day you'll be sorry for relying on those things. I wish I never got them for you."

"Yeah, I know, mom." Marissa says unsympathetically. "I gotta go. Late meeting with James and Cassandra."

Marissa hops in her brand-new Jeep Cherokee and drives 🚗off to school 🏫. Her parents got her the car 🚗 when Marissa pulled straight As in junior high school 🏫. Marissa wondered what she would get if she got all As in high school 🏫? She couldn't wait ✋ for graduation 🎓 to find out?

Pulling into the school 🏫 parking lot, Marissa's boyfriend 👦, James Royce, met her with a kiss 💋on the cheek when Marissa got out of her Jeep 🚙.

"Hey, love 💘."

"Hey, baby 💘." Greeted him back with a kiss 💋 as she took his hand ✋he held out for her.

"You didn't text me back?!" James said, a little disappointed 😞.

"Sorry, I misplaced my iPhone 📱 and didn't find it til I walked 🚶 out the door 🚪 this morning 🌄." Marissa explained.

"Oh, that's ok 👌."

"My mom got irritated with me being on my iPhone 📱 so much. Can you believe her? Like she can't understand how I can't live without it?" Marissa complained.

"I know, right!" James agreed. "Why can't our parents understand it's our life? We need to text people!"

"She said I would someday regret relying on it so much. Can you believe that?!"

"Really? Like what's she gonna do...take it away from you?" James wondered along with Marissa.

"I don't know, but I don't want to see that day I have to live without a cell phone 📱." Marissa said.

As Marissa and James headed for their first period class, Cassandra Nelson found them.

"Hey, Rissa! James!" Cassandra called out to them.

"Cassandra!" Marissa said turning around to see her best friend.

"Glad I found you."

What's up Cassie?"

"I wanted to ask you two if you wanted to come to a rave party I was invited to?"

"I can always count on you to know where the hot parties are, Cassie!"

"Just call me the party 🎉 whisperer'" Cassandra agreed.

"James want to go?" Marissa asked him.

"Rissa, you know I can't pass up a great party 🎉!" James said accepting the invite.

"Well, I guess you have our RSVP, Cass! We'll be there with bells 🛎 on!" Marissa told her friend.

"Great! We'll leave school 🏫 right after class lets out!"

"We'll be ready." Marissa said just as they entered algebra class.

As Marissa got her books ready for class, she couldn't wait ✋ for school 🏫 to end. Marissa enjoyed her life--great friends and a lavish party 🎉 life. Life couldn't be simpler!!!
