Texting in the 80s: Chapter 2

Marissa and James met Cassandra at the party 🎉 at one of their classmates, Laura Thomas, she was throwing. It was an 80s party 🎉--to the chagrin of Marissa, James, and Cassandra. It was Laura's mother's idea 💡. Laura didn't tell her classmates the theme of the party 🎉 for fear 😱 they wouldn't come?! "Laura, so glad you invited us!" Marissa exclaimed to Laura and her mother. "I'm so glad." Laura's mother said. "Because tonight is all about the 80s!" "The 80s?" Cassandra asked. "Yes. Nothing is allowed that wasn't in the 80s. No cellphones. No MP3 players." "Does my Bluetooth count?" James asked as he chatted with his friend, Mark. "Yes, James, even your Bluetooth. So put your modern-day technology away." Laura's mother said. "Tonight is all about the 80s." As Marissa, Cassandra, James, Laura and the other stude...

Writing Prompt: Pebbles on the Window

Image
1.        It’s 2 a.m. and you wake to the sound of someone throwing pebbles at your window. I couldn’t sleep…… Not when pebbles were being thrown at my window! I told him not to do it, but he did it anyway.    The next thing i knew, my father was pounding on my bedroom door, “What’s all the commotion up here?!” “Nothing dad.” I yelled through my bedroom door hoping he would go away and forget Charlie wasn’t there.   I didn’t need my father’s anger drawn into this. But unfortunately, my father didn’t go away.   He opened my bedroom door, not even making sure I was decent, and went to my window. I didn’t have to see my father’s face to know he was seething   when he saw Charlie standing outside my bedroom window.   “Damn that boy!”   my father yelled.   “I’m going out there to give him a piece of my mind!” Part of me wanted to go with my father…to calm him down so he wouldn’t do...

Writing Prompt: The NOC Shift

Image
1.        It’s 2 a.m. and you’re in the middle of an overnight shift. It was going to be a long NOC shift!    It was only 2 a.m. and all was quiet.    I just thought that!   Good thing I didn’t say it out loud!   They always said not to say the “q” word in a nursing facility.   It didn’t count if you thought it…right?! Guess not! Suddenly, call lights were coming on faster than anyone could answer them.   “Get me some water!”   one patient asked when I answered the call light. One resident swore she didn’t even push the light…yet the call light was on.   I left the resident’s room, only to have it come back on the minute I was out of their room.   Another aide told me the light was on.   I went in to see what the resident wanted and again, she said she said she never turned it on. But, sure enough, as soon as I walked out…the light was back on! Not w...

Writing Prompt: Rebirth

But all that changed when Channing met Lucille Anders.   Her blonde locks and southern belle beauty hit him like a ton of bricks.    Channing did everything he could to prove he was a changed man.   But Chase didn’t believe Channing was changed, especially when Channing’s ex-girlfriend, Hillary, came back into his life with the intention of reclaiming their love. Channing did everything he could to persuade Hillary that he wasn’t interested in her anymore.   But Hillary didn’t care.   She wanted Channing and went to extremes to get him back. ...

Writing Prompt: Nothing Good Happens After 2 a.m.?

1.        It’s 2 a.m. and you’re heading home, reflecting on the night you just had. It was a crazy night!   I never thought I would ever see my sister again!    We had a falling out years ago…it was so long ago, I don’t remember what it was about.   When I first saw my sister at the mall, I wanted to run away for fear that she still despised me.   It seemed like for years we had been avoiding each other, living our lives separately. But I somehow got up the nerve to go over and say hi.   To my surprise, she didn’t shun me.   Instead, she welcomed me with open arms as he hugged each other tightly. Then, she introduced me to her new beau and told me she was engaged to be married.   Then my sister shocked me even further by asking me to be her maid of honor.   I happily accepted her invitation. Then my sister’s fiance treated us to dinner at a steak house in town.   There was a ...
