Chapter 1
Laurie couldn’t wait to get to Venice, Italy. It was her favorite spot to vacation. She vacationed there every summer. But this year was special. After devoting 10 years to her job as travel consultant at Hartford Travel Agency, the staff presented Laurie with an all-expense-paid trip to Venice, Italy as a reward for the great work.
Laurie intended to sleep on the extremely long flight to Venice, but that was derailed when a handsome stranger sat next to her on the flight. Laurie put a magazine over her face to alert the stranger that she wanted to sleep, but the man alluded the hint. Instead he engaged her in a chat. Giving up on a much-needed sleep, Laurie thought she would just indulge the man in his chat. it wasn’t like she would ever see the guy again anyway.
“Hello, ma’am.” The handsome guy himself to Laurie. “Name’s Gary.”
“Hi…” Laurie replied back politely. “I’m Laurie.”
“Laurie. Such a pretty name.” Gary complimented her.
“Thank you.” Laura said, blushing a bright red. Compliments always seem to make Laurie blush from embarrassment.
“So, what do you do?” Gary asked, breaking the ice between them.
“I’m a travel consultant.” Laurie replied.
“Oh. Did you book your own flight?”
“No. it was a gift from my co-workers.”
“They paid for your trip? How nice.”
“It was a thank-you gift for 10 years of service.”
“You must work for a nice company.” Gary replied.
“I like where I work.” Laurie replied. “Where do you work?”
“Oh, I work for my father.” Gary told her, sounding bored with his job.
“What does your father do?”
“He owns a travel agency.”
“How weird.” Laurie thought, unbeknownst to her that his father owned Hartford Travel Agency and was the own that paid for her trip.
“So you travel to Venice a lot?” Gary said, changing the subject.
“Every summer.” “Maybe we can hook up later when the flight lands.”
“That would be great.” Laurie told Gary.
The pilot came on to announce they were landing in Venice and to put their seatbelts on before landing.
When the flight landed, Laurie and Gary went their separate ways, only to discover they were staying in the same hotel in adjacent suites.
Chapter 2
Laurie wakes the next morning unable to sleep, so she gets up and takes a shower and dresses to go for a walk. She only has a week in Venice, so she thought she would get out sightseeing and enjoy herself before the week ran out.
As she was walking along the boardwalk down from her hotel, she saw, Gary, from the flight and who was stay. Not wanting company, Laurie dodged Gary and stepped to the curb to cross the street. Laurie was not at an intersection where there was a crosswalk because she wanted to avoid Gary. Laurie, not looking before she crossed was narrowly hit by a car, but, Gary, quick on his feet, was at the scene quick enough to save Laurie from the oncoming car and pulled her out of harm’s way and to the side of the street.
When the owner of the car managed to get the car stopped, he jumped out of his car to see if Laurie was okay.
“Oh my god!” the man asked, Gary. “Is she okay?”
Laurie was gasping for air, but because of the near-accident. She was just shaken at the thought of being mowed down by the car.
“She’s in shock, but I don’t think she’s seriously hurt.” Gary replied as he checked Laurie over for possible injuries.
“Oh, thank God, she’s okay!” the man said.
Gary helped Laurie up to her feet as passersby looked on. “Well, nice to meet you again.” Gary told Laurie.
“Yeah.” Was all Laurie said. She couldn’t believe she could be so dumb as not to look both ways before crossing the street.
“What are you doing out this time of night?” Gary asked Laurie, as the man got back in his car, seeing as everything seemed fine.
“I couldn’t sleep, so I thought I’d go for a walk?” Laurie said, now questioning her own judgment.
“Well, why don’t I accompany you?” Gary offered.
“Well, okay.” Laurie said, giving in, now unsure of herself.
Gary and Laurie walked along the boardwalk to a gondola where they took a gondola ride around the city of Venice. It was a magical experience despite the fact that Laurie wasn’t looking for that kind of experience.
When they finished the gondola ride, Laurie grew tired as Gary walked her to her suite.
“Good night, Laurie.” Gary said before Laurie went inside to get some sleep.
