Friday Night Date Night

1.  Write a flash fiction story about a first date on a Friday night.

It was the end of the school week and Jim Labor couldn’t wait for his date that night.  He had worked up the nerve to ask Sally Weaver on a date for weeks.  He was scared she would turn him down due to his geeky appearance.

Sally was every guy’s dream date:  long blonde tresses; high school cheerleader and in the pep club; she was famous for dating jocks.  So why would Sally want to go out with him?!

But when Jim finally mustered the courage to ask Sally out, he was shocked when she said yes.

The date was on for tonight, and although Jim was nervous as heck, he tried not to show it while at school.

By now, class had ended for the day and Jim headed for his beat-up Pinto in the school parking lot.  It paled in comparison to the brand-new cars the other students were driving.

Jim drove home to have his after-school snack his mother had already prepared and left in the refrigerator for him when he got home.  As he ate the celery sticks with peanut butter and his glass of milk, Jim wondered what Sally was doing?  Was she preparing for their date too?

A few hours later, Jim was dressed in blue jeans and a plaid shirt, his hair combed back and ready for his date.  His mother wished him well as he walked out the front door to his car and drove to Sally’s home to pick her up.

But when he arrived at Sally’s home, the high school quarterback, Tom Weiner, was there.  “Did he misunderstand Sally’s intention?” Thought Jim.  He was going to drive back home, when out of Jim’s eye, Sally frantically waved to him.

Jim turned off the ignition to see if Sally was okay.  Tom was trying to force Sally to get into his car, but due to Jim’s quick thinking, he reached out and decked Tom in the jaw as Tom landed face-first on Sally’s lawn.

“I don’t know how to thank you!” Sally said, as Sally kissed Jim on the cheek.

“Well, why don’t we just enjoy our date?” Jim smiled as he helped Sally into his beat-up Pinto.

It was the best date Sally and Jim had had as they ate at a diner in town and a movie afterwards.

By the time that Jim had dropped off Sally on her front porch, Sally wondered why she ever let a guy like Tom date her??!!
