Betrayal of Love
Plot
Alexandria “Lexie” Chambers has met the man of her dreams in Markus Woods. But is Markus all he seems or is he hiding a deep dark secret? When a guy Lexie has never met claims they had a one-night stand, Markus feels betrayed despite Lexie’s claims she never knew him. Who is the one being betrayed: Lexie or Markus?
Chapter 1
Lexie Chambers never had time for dating while studying at her culinary college in her hometown so she could open her own restaurant. She even worked at the local café, Selma’s Diner, learning from the town’s beloved owner, Selma Watkins. Lexie looked up to Selma as a grandmother while Selma agreed to show Lexie the ropes in the culinary world.
While Lexie was busy working at the café one night, a sharp, dressed gentleman in his 20’s, walked in for a bite to eat. As Lexie took the gentleman’s order, he was instantly smitten with Lexie.
When Lexie brought the gentleman his order: a BLT with fries and a soda, he asked her to sit for a few minutes, to get to know her. Lexie turned the gentleman down, partly because she thought it was weird to become acquainted with the help, but mostly because the café was swamped with customers waiting for their orders as well.
“I’m sorry, sir, but I’m swamped with orders.” Lexie politely declined the gentleman’s request.
“Ok. Can I meet you after you get off work?” the gentleman said, not wanting to give up on getting acquainted with his server.
“Ok,” Lexie told the gentleman, despite being overwhelmed, but not wanting to be rude, “I close the café at 9 p.m.”
“I’ll see you then.” The gentleman told Lexie as he gulped the last of his soda down, left the money as payment and a very generous tip, and walked out of the café with a smile on his face.
Despite the weirdness of the conversation she just had with the gentleman, Lexie shrugged it off as some guy who wanted to get to know her.
And it had been a while since Lexie had a real date.
Chapter 2
Lexie met the gentleman she had a conversation at the restaurant where she worked while going to culinary school so she open her own restaurant. It didn’t even occur to her that she had never gotten the gentleman’s name until now, despite how good looking he was—a preppy-type dressed in three-piece suit. Was he a businessman? Well, there was time to find all that out when she met him at the coffee shop he had told her to go to after she got off work.
When Lexie arrived, the gentleman was already sitting in a booth waiting for her to show up. When Lexie arrived at the gentleman’s booth, the gentleman stood up and helps Lexie into the seat across from him.
“Hmmmmmm…chivalrous and polite?” Lexie thought to herself.
“By the way, my name is Markus Woods—with a ‘K’.” the gentleman introduced himself first thing when he sat back down.
“Nice to meet you, Markus!” Lexie greeted him. “My name is Alexandra Chambers. But you can call me ‘Lexie.’”
“Well, what a very pretty name for such a pretty lady.” Markus complimented her. “But Lexie doesn’t suit you. May I call you ‘Alexa’?”
“Alexa, yes, that’s okay.” Lexie said as she flashed back to when her dear old grandmother called her that. After her grandmother passed, she hadn’t gone by that nickname since.
“What would you like to order?” Markus asked her.
“Just a mocha.” Lexie told him.
“One mocha coming up.” Markus said as he walked up to the counter to order Lexie a mocha.
It was only a few minutes and Markus was back with the mocha. They enjoyed nice chat as they got to know each other. Lexie told Markus of her ambitions to open her own restaurant when she completed culinary school. And Markus said he would be more than happy to help her with that as he was a businessman with financial training and education.
The date went so well, Lexie agreed to another one, but she was so busy the next week with work and a midterm for class, she sadly told Markus that she didn’t know when she could meet. Markus told Lexie to just let him know when she was available again and they would make another date.
Lexie couldn’t wait until they could meet again. Markus seemed like a decent gentleman.
Chapter 3
A week later, after finishing a shift at work, Lexie text Markus:
Lexie: Hey, I’m finished w/ finals. Do U still want another date?
Markus text back almost immediately…so quickly it seemed to Lexie like he was watching her……
Markus: Hello beautiful! Yes. I want another date!
Lexie: OK! When?
Markus: Early tomorrow morning? A breakfast date?
Lexie: That’s kinda early? I don’t know if I’ll be up then?
Markus: A luncheon?
Lexie; That sounds better.
Markus: OK, then, lunch it is! Pick U up @ 12?
Lexie: Sure! C U then! Going 2 sleep now. Good nite!
Markus: Good nite babe! Can’t wait 2 C U 2morrow!
After texting Markus, Lexie laid her phone down and immediately fell asleep dreaming of her date with Markus.
Chapter 4
Lexie woke a few hours later and took a shower before getting ready for her date with Markus. Lexie was still getting ready when Markus knocked on her door.
“Markus, you’re early?” Lexie exclaimed, still dressed in her bath towel, which made Markus take notice.
“Wow! Babe! You look hot standing there in that towel!” Markus smirked.
“Come in and make yourself at home.” Lexie told Markus, attempting to ignore his remark.
While Lexie finished getting ready, Markus sat down on the sofa and picked up the TV remote and flipped through the channels.
By the time Lexie appeared in the living room, Markus was engrossed in the TV show he was watching while waiting for Lexie.
“Hey, Babe, can we leave when this show is over? It’s my favorite!” Markus asked her.
“Sure, why not.’ Lexie relented.
“You’re a doll!” Markus told her as he went back to the show, totally ignoring Lexie.
Lexie and Markus never went on their lunch date as Markus’ show turned into an all-day marathon and Lexie instead made lunch for them at her home.
Markus never even made a pass at her the whole time during the marathon.
Chapter 5
Markus finally went home around 9 p.m. without so much as a kiss good night. Markus barely paid attention to her and kept his attention on the show he was watching.
Lexie was so upset by this behavior, she didn’t talk to him for 2 days, even ignoring his messages and calls whenever he tried to call her.
When she did finally message him, she made up an excuse as to her absence:
Lexie; Sorry, Markus, for te absence. Couldn’t be helped. I got an immediate call from work who asked me to work the last two days.
Markus immediately replied back:
Markus: That’s OK. Missed U.
Lexie: U 2.
Markus: Wanna hang 2day?
Lexie: Sorry. Got the flu.
Markus: Oh, sorry Babe. Maybe 2morrow?
Lexie: We’ll C?
Markus: OK.
Lexie: Feeling nauseous. Getting sum sleep now.
As she laid her phone on the coffee table, Lexie felt a twinge of guilt knowing she had just lied to Markus. But she couldn’t help it. She didn’t want to see him. she was still upset about their missed lunch date 3 days ago.
But little did Lexie know, but Markus had managed to get the truth from Lexie’s supervisor, a friend of Markus, who met him for lunch and the topic came up in conversation.
Chapter 6
Markus was stung when he found out Lexie was never at work the last few days and wondered why she lied to him? Was she hiding something from him? Was she seeing someone else? Markus had to find out!
“Good morning, Lexie,” Markus said when he heard Lexie's voice on the cell.
“Markus, good morning.” Lexie said cheerily.
“Are you ok?” Markus asked her.
“I'm fine.”
“So, I was wondering why you said you were working the last few days?” Markus inquired. “Your supervisor said you weren't at work?”
“You called my employer?” Lexie said, the ire in voice coming out.
“Actually, no. He's a friend of mine and we met for lunch yesterday and the subject just came up.” Markus explained.
“Oh, you and my supervisor are friends?!” Lexie said bewildered.
“So, why did you lie? Are you seeing someone else?”
“No. I was hurt by your behavior the last time you came over watching TV all day.” Lexie explained. “i was just avoiding you.”
“Oh, I see.” Markus said relieved. “Let me make it up to you.”
“How?”
“You'll see.” Markus said secretively. “Just get ready. I'm picking you up in an hour.”
“Okay.” Lexie said.
“See you soon.” Markus told her.
“Yeah.” Lexie said before the call ended.
Lexie wondered what Markus had planned. She went to take a shower and get ready to meet Markus for his secretive date.
