The Dinner Party

Image
Write a story where the protagonist has dinner with three unlikely people. Prologue I didn't want to do it: a dinner party with my ex-wife, new girlfriend and my mother. The possibility of it being an eventful night was slim-to-none. My mother hates my ex-wife and she has yet to meet my new girlfriend. But my girlfriend said that we should help my ex-wife with her problem. You see, my ex-wife hasn't had the best of luck in the dating department since we split. She has met nothing but total jerks since she started dating again. I really feel for her since she is the mother of our 2-year-old daughter, Drea. But my mother has had nothing but contempt for my ex-wife ever since we married. Celia, my ex-wife, has bent over backwards to please my mother—who is one hard person to please. I can't even please her most of the time. My mother has always been on my case for my bad choices, Celia being one of them. I am just biting my tongue until the three women in my li...

Flash Fiction: A Mishap at a Wedding

Image
This was the moment you'd been waiting for. Gleefully, you raised your camera to take a picture and then... the battery died. It was my sister’s wedding and my sister was already nervous about everything being perfect for her big day! The flowers arrived.   The caterers were setting up for the reception.   The band was set to play.   Even the minister was waiting at the front of the cathedral.    As my sister walked down the aisle to her waiting groom, looking as gorgeous as ever, I noticed the “low battery light” come on my camera.   As I checked the battery, it said it was full.   So I don’t know why it came on?   Then the light went off signaling everything was okay. The wedding went off without a hitch and the bride and groom said their “I do’s” and were pronounced husband and wife.   I had the perfect pose as the groom kissed the bride.   I was ready to snap the photo.. …boom!!!!!!! The sudden noise ...

Flash Fiction: Just a Little White Lie!

Image
"It was just a little white lie..." you told yourself. “It was just a little white lie…” you told yourself, as you looked into the mirror, disgusted with yourself.   You didn’t mean to do it—but you broke your boyfriend’s iPhone when you decided to look through his messages. You had suspected your boyfriend of cheating and wanted proof.   You knew it was wrong, but it was just there…nagging at you, “Have a look!   What harm can it do?” So you opened up your boyfriend’s iPhone to view his messages.   But you never got to the messages when you accidentally dropped it on the wood floor, cracking the lens. Quickly, not wanting to upset your boyfriend, you put it down on the table where he laid it and waited for him to pick it up. 10 minutes later, your boyfriend comes in and checks his iPhone when he hears it ring….and notices the crack in the screen. “Babe, how did my phone get a crack in it?” your boyfriend asks, as you dread giving an answer. ...
